Basic Skincare Tips For Anyone

Photography: Mary Mahoney

Happy Monday! Let’s do a little skincare 101, shall we?

Now, before I dive into this I do want to start by disclaiming that I do not believe that any product is what determines a woman’s beauty or value. Whether you use skin care from the drugstore, high end “luxury” skin care from Nieman Marcus or you don’t use skincare at all – we are all the same. YOU are beautiful. Your beauty was instilled in you before you were even born! (How great is that?!)

However, this would not be a very fun post if I did not share with you some of my very best skin care tips and products I am absolutely loving at the moment!!

To start I want to say that I have received my esthetician license however, these products are solely a recommendation and not a one size fits all! What works for me may not work for you. A lot of these tips, however, are general information that all ladies can apply!

Now, let’s get to the fun stuff!!!

1. Cleanse

Wash your face every.single.night!!! I can not stress this enough. It is incredibly important for women (and anyone with a face) to clean and rid their skin of dirt, dust, and pollution that you may have encountered throughout your day. A lot of people are under the impression that you only need to wash your face if you have makeup on, but it is vital to cleanse your skin daily whether you were out and about or just at home loving on your sweet babies!

Cleansers are not something I believe you NEED to splurge on. You can find just as great (if not better) ones at the drugstore! The one I am currently using (and love) is Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Gel Cleanser. It breaks down my makeup so well and effortlessly while making my skin feel clean and not stripped or dry! A lot of dermatologists and estheticians recommend Cetaphil as it is gentle enough for all skin types and fragrance-free!
I love this gel cleanser and love the price tag even more!

I have even gotten my husband to start washing his face morning and night and he LOVES it! 😉 If he can do it, so can you!!

2. Tone

Toner is a step a lot of ladies skip. Whether you are a student, full-time girl boss (working) or a stay at home mama, let’s face it, we ALL have busy schedules! But that does not mean that we should skimp on our self-care!! To be quite honest I used to skip toning my skin (and I’m an esthetician!!). But I have finally found one that I happily go out of my way to implement every day!!

I have been using Thayers Witchhazel as my toner for quite some time now and I know it is what I have to thank for balancing my skin! It is a natural product (which I LOVE!!) and also budget friendly (under $10 for 12oz!!)! I use it on freshly cleansed skin and apply it with a cotton pad. It does not strip your skin because it does not have alcohol in it, and it is extremely satisfying seeing all of the excess grime coming off my face that my cleanser didn’t get!
Plus the rose petal scent makes me feel like royalty haha!

3. Hydrate

Moisture is incredibly important for our skin. Think of your face as a grape (plump, supple and hydrated). Now think of what a grape does when it lacks hydration… it turns into a raisin!!! Now, I don’t know about you, but I would muuuuch rather have soft, supple, radiant skin than dry and wrinkly raisin skin!!

Moisturizer is the key to keeping our skin hydrated. This is where you want to invest in a good product. If your budget does not allow, that is totally fine girl!! There are still some amazing drugstore options! My biggest tip is to look at the ingredients. That’s where you can tell what you are actually getting! Hyaluronic acid is GREAT! We naturally have it in our skin and it is what helps keep that skin of yours nice and plump! I currently rotate between Kate Somerville’s Goat Milk Moisturizer and her Deep Tissue Repair. I use the goat milk cream in the morning before makeup, it is not greasy, lightweight and leaves my skin feeling amazing throughout the day! The formula is extremely gentle and the natural lactic acid helps give my skin a radiant “glow” that I happily rock makeup free but also makes a wonderful canvas for before applying makeup! I use the Deep Tissue moisturizer at night to help with brightening and firmness. The Deep Tissue Moisturizer is considered the “facelift in a jar” it plumps, tones and firms the skin while also brightening as I mentioned before. It feels like velvet and is the ultimate powerhouse in preventing and reversing signs of aging! They are a bit pricey but I used to work for the line and they are fabulous products. Natural ingredients with concentrated active ingredients so that you see results! Totally worth the splurge in my opinion! If you have oily skin I recommend you try the oil-free moisturizer! I promise you will thank me 😉

I did want to mention that I was able to try the Joyome Illuminating Day Serum and Intensive Overnight Repair Serum by Plexus for 10 days. I saw a great improvement in the texture and tone of my skin in just 10 days! The serums definitely provide results and would be great to add onto any anti-aging regimen! If you are interested in Plexus or their new serums you can click here or email plexusbytamara@gmail.com with questions!

Now, I know we only touched on the basics. There are still treatments, eye creams, masks and much more to chat about! But I can’t spill all my secrets just yet!

Comment below your #1 favorite skincare product and why so other women can get some more great recommendations!!

Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope your day is fabulous!! Now go wash your face!

XOXO
