Our First Few Months In Charleston

Incase you missed it – WE MOVED TO CHARLESTON! I have been so excited to share this news but I have not made time to update you! This has been something we have been looking forward to for a while but had to keep a bit under wraps for quite some time. We feel so blessed to be in a position to live somewhere of our choosing and not to mention, one of the most beautiful and desired destinations in the country! There is no shortage of beauty or charm to say the least 🙂 Sooo, why did we move to Charleston?

Why We Decided To Move

For anyone new here or something you may not know, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. My husband William is from all over the south really but mainly grew up near Raleigh, North Carolina. Our entire relationship was long distance (I promise to share this story one day!) and when we got engaged we both decided to move down to South Florida – West Palm Beach area to be near his family. After we had gotten married we moved a bit more south near Boca Raton and lived there for about 2 years. Our time in Florida was great but we always knew it wasn’t for us. We never saw ourselves raising a family there and when William’s parents moved back up to North Carolina it made it even clearer that we were not meant to live in Florida forever.

Family is the absolute most important thing to me, we knew that we probably wouldn’t settle near my family as they are in the midwest and we wanted to stay in the south so moving closer to Williams family was a definite must. Community has been another big factor in our decision. We were really lacking community in Florida when we moved more south, we knew we wanted to make a home and put down roots somewhere before we welcome a baby into our family. And with baby fever on the rise we knew we should probably make this move sooner rather than later.

William had been working for a wonderful medical company in Florida for 2 years in addition to running our company Digital Rocket with me. He started Digital Rocket with his Dad right before we got married. We are a Digital Marketing Agency specializing in SEO and web development for churches, non profits and small businesses. Since I had left my job early last spring to run Digital Rocket full time it had just continued to grow. It was getting to the point where I would soon need William full time. We prayed about this decision for quite a while and late last summer we both felt called to both pursue growing our company full time. William had spoken with his job at the end of the year and with their full support we took a leap of faith and both were solely employed by our company. As scary as that was, God confirmed every step of the way that this has been his plan for us and we are so humbled by His blessings.

Why Charleston?

Well to start, with our clients being all over the U.S. we can work from virtually anywhere! We feel incredibly fortunate to live wherever we choose and not be confined to an area for work.

As I mentioned above, being close to family is a huge priority to us. My mom, who currently lives in Minnesota but is moving back to the town I grew up in Chicago, is amazing and comes to visit us a couple times a year and we will definitely be visiting her as often as we can in Chicago. William’s parents, sister, brother-in-law and our niece are in Raleigh (only 4.5 hours from Charleston) and his brother is a short flight away in South Florida – although I think we are convincing him to move near us 😉 So Charleston was a great geographical location for us – a larger airport with direct flights to Chicago and short drives to William’s parents as well as easy drives to his grandparents too!

And the larger things that drew us to Charleston is the rich history, charming neighborhoods, low-country life, multiple beaches, endless amazing food… have I sold you yet? haha We love that Charleston is a smaller city than Chicago but also a big place to explore. There is not a shortage of adventure and that is one of my favorite things about living her so far! Since all of my family is long distance, I daydream of the weekends we will have hosting our friends and family, making unforgettable memories in all of South Carolina’s beauty!

How Are We Liking Living in the Low-Country?

Short answer – we LOVE it!! Well – I LOVE it, William really likes it and is slowly falling in love 😉 I won’t speak for him, but I have never felt more myself then I have since we moved to Charleston. I truly feel like I was destined to live here! I am always inspired, I love that there are more seasons than Florida has to offer but also not as cold as Chicago, and don’t get me started on the Live Oak trees and Spanish Moss! It’s like we are living our own version of the Notebook!! We are also big fans of weekend trips and there are SO many destinations on our bucket list that are within 2-4 hours from us. I plan to take you along on the adventures 😉

In other news, we have also made some friends!! It took a bit longer due to Covid but making friends has been the cherry on top! There are several really sweet ladies at our apartment that I have gotten to know and the sweetest couple William and I have connected with. Morgan and I have so much in common and Gabe and William have quickly bonded (probably easy to do when your wives are so similar haha)! Also – I have helped Morgan start her blog Seaside Southern (launching later this week), if you like my content you will definitely love her!

Our Future Plans?

With the current state of our country I use the word “Plans” loosely. I am a planner at heart and always love to know what we are working towards etc. but know that things may not be definite or on my timeline and I am working at being ok with that!

I am sure most of my family reading this section is interested to see the word baby haha but our first goal is to purchase our first home! When we moved here we decided to rent to make sure it was a good fit as well as find an area we see ourselves in for some time. We (I) have looked around at a few areas and options and we are currently on the same page as far as that plan goes but we will see come November how it all pans out! If all goes to plan, we hope to be settled in a home by next spring.

What’s Next For The Blog?

As for the blog, I am ready to continue this online journey. I started this site in 2018 and got burnt out after posting so much content that felt like what I “should” be posting. From now on I will be focusing most of my posts on providing style, interior and lifestyle inspiration along with sharing what we are up to and of course lots of Charleston! I hope you continue to follow along on the journey, I get asked quite often if I will get back to my blog and I am thrilled to make that happen. I am committing to posting once a week starting off and we will see where it goes from there! I’ve already got photos shot and content for a few posts to go out so I am ready 🙂

If you have any blog post requests or questions please let me know in the comments below!

Thank you for continuing to support me, I am so glad we are on this journey together!
