Hey Friends!! Well, I have hyped up this week and for good reason!! This exact time last year was our wedding week, and as we prepare to celebrate our 1st year of marriage next Monday I wanted to do a mini-series giving a look back on our wedding day, crazy stories from our wedding, reflecting on our first year as husband and wife, and much more! Today’s post will be a look back on our day and some of the many details that made it so special! It’s a long one so grab a cup of coffee or a snack!
For a little background – William and I got engaged April 11th, 2017 and were married October 15th, 2017. Our wedding was planned in 6 short months and it was perfect for us. When we got engaged I was living in Chicago and William was living in Denver – cue the Hallmark storyline. Our entire relationship had been long distance, and one day I will share that story! Once we had gotten engaged we both moved to Florida near Wills family – and it was so amazing to finally live in the same state!!! We started planning our wedding based on a venue, most of my family lives up north and most of Williams family lives in the south (city girl meets country boy and the rest is history 😉 ). We thought a central location would be best as it would be a destination wedding no matter what we did! William and I both love North Carolina and when we found this dreamy location we knew that is where we would say “I do”.
Our wedding ceremony and reception were held at a charming home in New Hill, NC called The Bradford and I am so glad we chose it as our venue!
We got married on a Sunday and there was a wedding the day before us so we did the rehearsal the morning of. I just wasn’t there! I remember peaking out the window to get a glimpse of William 🙂 He had a huge grin on his face the whole time (no one could see me!!) and I was so giddy to walk down that aisle! We had the BEST photographers – Mary Mahoney was our main photographer and we were lucky enough to have Michela Brooke as a second shooter! They are both so talented!! (As you will see proof in some of these shots – I treasure the moments they both captured so beautifully!)
Although my mother in law graciously helped me plan most of the wedding, we did have a ‘month of wedding planner’ and she was phenomenal! Jenn from Vision Events did such a great job running the show on the wedding day and even made it so I could walk down the aisle to a specific second of our processional song… I told you, I am big on details!!! And Jenn did not disappoint, she made our day perfect!
I actually did my hair and makeup for the wedding but my sister in laws friend was there to do her makeup and I asked her to amp mine up a bit and I am so glad I did! I am pretty picky about my makeup but letting Emily freshen me up gave me the “pamper” feeling every bride wants!
One of my favorite pictures getting ready with my Sister in law!
I got all my girls vintage flannels from an Etsy shop! I loved getting ready in them, they are different than the traditional robe and perfect in October!
Mama getting me into my dress!!
My brother seeing me for the first time! One of the most special moments!
For anyone who doesn’t know, my daddy passed away the summer going into my freshman year of high school. Since then, Mr. Gary (pictured) has been a Godly example to me and loved me like a daughter. It was only fitting that he filled in for my daddy on my wedding day. I am tearing up typing this! The Gary family is so special to me and such a big part of my life. I am so grateful for the relationship I have with Mr. Gary, Mrs. Gary and their boys (my other “brothers” 🙂 ) I was so honored to have them apart of our big day!
One of my favorite pictures of my mama! She was checking on me during my bridal portraits!
Letters & Prayer
William and I chose to forgo the “first look” moment. To be honest, I was on the fence. William made the ultimate decision not to do it as he wanted everyone to see his reaction the first time he saw me. So we wrote letters and prayed over our marriage.
And of course, I peeked!!! Haha
I made William a book of prayers torn out of my journal that I had written for him over the course of our relationship along with memories, movie tickets, plane tickets, text messages, and pictures. I left lots of empty pages so we could continue the book 🙂
You can not tell in the photo but our wedding date is engraved in the necklace. I did not expect a gift from William so of course this melted my heart! And I wear it every day!
My Mama did the SWEETEST thing and really thought out my something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
Something Old was the gold locket. My daddy bought it for my mom one Christmas, I remember her wearing it growing up and always wanting to open it and look inside! Something New: she bought me a beautiful pair of earrings that are not pictured. Something Borrowed: she let me borrow my daddy’s wedding band. I wore it on my thumb while I walked down the aisle. It was so sweet!!! And Something Blue: are the vintage blue handkerchiefs that were my grandmothers that actually came in handy during the ceremony!! My cousin/maid of honor had them and pulled them in perfect timing!
Another special detail in honor of my father were these bouquet charms. I had put them on the back burner until the night before the wedding.. not very smart! I had so many things running through my mind and forgot to print the pictures out! I mentioned to my bridesmaids Stephanie and Katie and that I was disappointed I had forgotten about it. Stephanie called her boyfriend (now husband!!!) and had him go to CVS to get the photos printed while Katie found what happened to be my favorite pictures of my dad off of my Instagram and screenshot them to send to Stephanie’s boyfriend. He brought them to the hotel and my friends put them in the charms and handed them to me. I was so shocked and touched and could not believe it. Thank you, ladies!!!
Katie, one of my best friends and bridesmaid went around and had the most special people in my life write me a letter to read the night before the wedding. It was an incredible detail that I will treasure. She knows I love sappy things!! Haha I am so grateful to have friends like her in my life!
The table in honor of my daddy! He was a professional motocross racer and 767 was his racing number 🙂
I am BIG on numbers! It is very weird but I am! 5 is my lucky number, for many reasons. Hence why I made sure we got married on a day with a 5 in it haha. Our wedding was on October 15th and the number on the house of The Bradford is 15!!! I knew it was a sign! Just another detail I loved 🙂
I am from Chicago and since we were having our wedding in Williams neck of the woods I needed to represent where I am from! Our gift to our guests were bags of Garrett’s popcorn and they were a hit!!
Right before Mr. Gary and I were going to walk down the stairs to the aisle my chest got a weird red rash and I was sooo nervous. He prayed over me and I will never forget that moment!! (and the rash dissapeared!)
I will treasure this photo!
Right before we went down the aisle!!
5 Seconds before I turned the corner! The next 2 pictures may be my favorite from the whole day. I love him so much!!
My handsome groom!!!
We were so honored to have William’s father officiate our ceremony his sermon was beautiful. (That is him in the back!)
We did it!!!
The most beautiful girls I know!
I am SO happy we did a sweetheart table. We were able to look out at everyone we love and take it all in. And we both actually got to eat! Best decision ever!
Tyler was the life of the party!
One of my favorite shots!
Saying bye to my mama!! I love these pictures of us hugging our parents goodbye. It was such a sweet moment!
William’s parents <3 Little did we know that we were heading to a Presidential suite they booked for us! We got to the hotel (which let me tell you… people stare big time when you walk into a hotel after your wedding haha all I could do was laugh!) We got up to our beautiful room and were in shock, we were so grateful!
This post only scratched the surface of our day. I didn’t get to mention the tear-jerking speeches from my maid of honor, Jessica and Will’s best man, the dance I surprised my mama with or the amazing vocals we had for our worship song and last dance to “At Last”. But I wanted to give you a glimpse into our day along with some of our favorite details!
Our wedding day was so special. Not because of all the pretty details but because of the story our Lord wrote for us far before we ever existed. That he had prepared our hearts to love each other so that our marriage could be a reflection to others of His love.
We love because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19
I love you William Wright, and I will love you for the rest of my days! I can not believe how blessed I am to love you, and I am grateful!
And although our wedding looked like a dream (all weddings do!) be sure to stay tuned this week as I am going to spill EVERY crazy detail that went wrong! I have lots of funny stories for you, friend! See you tomorrow 🙂
