Hey Friend, happy Thursday! I feel it on my heart to share something I have been thinking a lot about recently. I hope at the end of this post you feel encouraged and inspired!
As the ending weeks of the year approach us, many will ponder and discuss their goals for the coming year. In an age where we are surrounded by others sharing their newly built or renovated home, showing off their designer bag or even a new baby – it is in our nature to long for more. We dream of what our lives would be like if we just had this or that – thinking that would make us one step closer towards being content. We are consumed with wanting more, more, more.
But how can we possibly take any more if we are not maxing out what we have now? A house for example. You and your newlywed husband live in a 2 bed 1 bath apartment. This year you are making it a goal to save for a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house. As you continue living your day to day, you dream up this fantasy in your head of what it will be like once you have this new home. But are you maximizing your home now? Are you keeping it tidy and rid of clutter? Are you cleaning weekly? Is your dishwasher being empty and reloaded without a pile-up party in the sink? Do you make your bed daily? If the answer is no – how on earth do you think you will be able to manage or steward a larger home?!
The same could go for a startup company. You work a fulltime day job and are not making enough to financially handle your company fulltime. You dream of the day you can quit your current job and solely own and work on your company – someday turning it into a multi-million dollar business. But when you get home at 5 pm you suddenly lose interest and would rather relax. How do you expect your company to take off in a way where you can support yourself and have the grit to run it full time?
And my final example – your handbag. You are hoping to get a beautiful new purse for the holidays. Something a little more extravagant than what you have now. You promise yourself you will keep it clean and organized. However, your current handbag is anything but tidy – with your receipts tucked in every nook and cranny, cough drops at the bottom from when your son was sick a few weeks ago and not to mention the 4 lipsticks rolling around! You are not taking care of what you have now so how will you be capable of more?
I mean, would you really expect your boss to give you a promotion if you could not manage your responsibilities?
In order to properly steward your blessing, you must pour everything you have into it. This is in all areas – your home, your company, your job, your blog. Things don’t happen overnight, but these things can happen and they do happen but only for those who are willing to work for it and hustle!
I am a dreamer. I have hundreds of ideas running through my head daily. For me, my blessing is this blog. I absolutely love it. If you did not know, I do also work a fulltime job. I dream one day I will be able to run RebeccaWright.com full time. But for now, I get home from work and work on my website, write my posts, respond to comments, prep for photo shoots and so on. I spend hours weekly until I am pleased with the content I am putting out. I do those things because I love this and I see the potential that can come from my blog. However, I am not naive to the fact that those opportunities will not just fall in my lap. I am so grateful that you read and enjoy the content I create here on my site! It truly makes my heart smile! And everytime you comment on my post, share it on social media or recommend my blog to your girlfriend – it blesses me in ways farther than you know! If you missed it, you can click here to read how starting my blog has changed my life.
I encourage you to think about the things you often dream about. Is it that vacation home or lake house you and your husband have been dreaming about? Or the new house you can’t stop eyeing when you drive past? Whatever it is, think about what you have now. Are you truly maximizing its potential? If your dream were to become reality, do you think you are truly ready for it? Remember, you once prayed or dreamed for what you have now, steward it as your blessing.
If you made it to the end of this, thank you for reading! I hope that this thought has encouraged you or lit a fire in your heart. It sure has in mine! My mama is getting into town today and I can hardly wait! We have a fun blog project we will also be working on, so stay tuned! Wishing you the BEST day, thank you for spending a part of it with me 🙂
