We Are Building A House!

We are humbled and thrilled to finally share this exciting news! We are officially building our first house and are overjoyed at the blessing & provision that this home is and will be! We have been under contract since September and the background of the image above is our lot 🙂 I have been dying to share this on my blog and Instagram so now that construction has started there will be lots of fun updates to come!

The Background

Now, this was by no means an easy process… there have been so many events and prayers sent that led us to this point. And don’t get me started on how many hoops you have to jump through to get a loan if you’re a business owner/self employed! I truly don’t think I would have gotten through the stress without the support and knowledge from my sister and mother in law (and of course my sweet William!). They both have real estate licenses and I think I called them each once a day minimum when we were ready to pull the trigger haha bless their souls! I have been dreaming of this season since we got married and it just goes to show that God has a plan for everything. I am so grateful for all of the seasons that got us to this point and to be able to put down roots for a while and start our family! (The line my father in law was waiting for 😉 )

The Details

Yay, the fun part – more about the house! I will be sharing many more updates on here and Instagram as construction starts to take shape but to give you an idea of what our future home will look and feel like: It is a 2 story Charleston-style home, with double front porches! There were/are so many God winks throughout this process that helped us feel more at ease and certain about the choice of building our first home, one being the location! We will be on the other side of Charleston and much closer to town than we are now which I love! Also right across from the Stono River for easy boat access should we choose to get one someday. The area we are building is more of a rural low country feel which William loves and it’s the best of both worlds since we are in a bit more of a remote location BUT in the sweetest little neighborhood for our future babies to grow up in! When we started looking into this neighborhood they had just released a few homesites that were available to build on… we did not know going into it that they only had a few selections at a time on lots and it just so happened that the one that seemed practically perfect to us was one of the few available! It was one of the God winks that gave me total comfort that this was God’s plan for us.

Interior details – we are building it as a 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom house with a study on the main floor (that could also be a guest room) and a large loft on the second floor. Should we need the space in the future we may inclose the loft later down the road to give us 4 bedrooms upstairs but we are excited to have more entertaining and play space up there for now!

One of the things I am most looking forward to is our fireplace! I am already dreaming of next holiday season cozying up in our living room with a Christmas movie, Hallmark of course, accompanied by a fire and hot cocoa! I am also thrilled to have ample space for guests, I love love love hosting, and being able to host our whole family is a huge deal to me that I do not take for granted! We love the treeline at the back of our property making it feel more private. And right across the street in the middle of the neighborhood is the sweetest playground/park where we will be able to take our kids and watch them from our porches as they get older!

Not our exact house or home elevation but similar look with the double front porch, white exterior and black doors!

What our shiplap fireplace will look like!

Speaking of the porches, I am thrilled to have multiple outdoor spaces for gardening, working, reading, entertaining, and many memories! As I mentioned the front of the home will feature double front porches – I’m thinking of keeping the main level a little more simple with rocking chairs, plants etc and doing a bed swing and sitting area up top. We also have a back porch area but I haven’t gotten that far to decide how we want to utilize that space!

Below are some photos of what our house will look *similar* to. I am over the moon to be able to finally use my interior design passion to make us a long term home! Living with mama Gary, her skills rubbed off on me and I’m excited to get her expert advice and opinions as we design our home!

View from the top of the stairs! Our flooring will be lighter and we will use the nook below as an entry so there will not be the white built-in you see in the photo.

A peak at the master bath! Williams one selection he really wanted was the rain shower head so we went ahead and did that 🙂

What our house currently looks like! The foundation is poured and framing starts Monday!

Things I've saved on Pinterest...

As for the design, my style leans more traditional with hints of coastal as well as antique accents. I love neutrals as much as I love blues, whites, and green hues. Since our house is new construction I will be pulling a lot of older pieces to break up the look and make it feel more classic than just a newly built home. I want our home to have charm, be warm, and have unexpected design elements. Over the next few months, I will be sharing my vision boards for certain rooms to give you a closer peek at our plans. I am truly just over the moon that I can finally share this on my blog as I am so passionate about interior design! Below are some peeks as to what I have been saving on Pinterest for the new house!

If you have any questions about our home building process or any questions at all please leave me a comment below or message me on Instagram, I’d love to do a q&a! So much more home content to come and I’m so glad I can share this journey with you!
