Happy Thursday!! My first blog post of 2019… and it is a good one!

 

The last few days, fitness may or may not have crossed your mind at one point or another. Changing fitness habits is one of the top “resolutions” on peoples list year after year. But why is it that come February and March we see less and fewer faces in the gym? Well, that is just life. People get busy, they get burnt out and life happens. For some, that sounds like a bad excuse but it is a reality! Today, I am giving you all my tips on staying on track with your fitness goals. I am not an expert or health coach by any means, these are just tips I have found to work and thought I would be doing you all a disservice by not sharing. Because hey, we are online besties right?!?!

 

1. Set A Realistic Goal

The first step to achieving your fitness goals is by actually having a goal. A goal by definition is the aim or desired result – so ask yourself:

  • What am I aiming at?

Never ever set a goal because you want to be like someone else. Do this for YOU! Goals should be set to become a better version of YOURSELF, not to become someone else!

 

2. Make A Schedule & Stick To It

Schedule your workouts or they will most likely not happen. If you already go to the gym regularly, you will not need to do this, but if you have recently decided to pursue fitness goals this is really important! Find where you have free time and schedule in your workouts.

If you are just starting out, do not expect yourself to be at the gym 5 days in a row, it is unrealistic and will probably deter you from success. I like to start with 3 days a week and work myself up to 5-6 days a week within a month or two.

You should live by your schedule. Not to be confused with all or nothing thinking – it is not the end of the world if you have to miss a workout, but chances are if you miss one day, you are likely to miss another and another. Try to stick to your plan the best you can, even when you are busy, even when you are on vacation and most definitely when you feel like giving up! Hang in there!

This year I really want to make it a priority to stay on track while on vacation or out of town. I truly feel my best self when I am staying active!

 

3. Have A Plan

The gym can be intimidating, trust me, I have been there! But that should not hinder you from an incredible workout! I will admit, I used to show up to the gym wanting to do cross training but just ran on the treadmill instead because I was intimidated. If this sounds familiar to you, find a workout plan! You can google them or find them on Pinterest (different sets to run through). The plan I use is called BBG. I love it because they are 28-minute workouts that can, for the most part, be done without equipment aka you can do them ANYWHERE! I use the SWEAT app on my phone and it includes moving photos on how to do each exercise. I have used the workouts on and off for the last year but have started a 12 week challenge and will definitely fill you in on my results 🙂 On days that I don’t do BBG I run on the treadmill or outside. But use the program that fits your lifestyle best, if that is orange theory fitness classes, workout DVDs or weight training, do what is best for you 🙂

 

4. Accountability

Whether it is a workout buddy or someone to check in with, make sure you have support! I soo miss working out with my friends, but since we have moved it is too far to just workout together. So Will has become my accountability. Depending on our schedules, we will go to the gym together and if not we always encourage each other before the other leaves for their workout. It definitely makes a difference when you have someone cheering you on and having similar goals as you, especially on days you just flat out want to give up! If you have no one to workout with but have long distance friends, start a group chat and send each other post-workout selfies to keep it fun!
