When Life Gives You Lemons

Hey sweet friends!

I hope everyone had a restful and safe weekend! Today I wanted to share a lesson with you all that I have recently been putting into action in my life.

Ever have one of those days where you just wonder why you left your cozy bed to enter a world of chaos? Well don’t get too down, cuz we’ve all been there. You know the saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?” Yeah, I’m sure that’s the last thing on your mind when you’re having a hard day or frustrating moment. BUT I have totally been guilty of neglecting all of the AMAZING things in my life and any sort of “positive note” when I’m having one of those days. Luckily, I married an optimist who has trained me to be more mindful on days that just don’t seem to be going my way.

Now I know this may sound silly but have you ever gone through the Starbucks drive through and you’re a little antsy inside because you’re 4 cars back, the woman in front of you is trying to order a non fat skinny mocha java frappuccino (is that even a drink?) with extra whip cream and you’re running late for work?!? Girl, I’ve been there hahaha. But what I’ve desperately struggled with in those moments is to let go of control. Yeah, sure, you shouldn’t have pushed it this close and opted for overpriced coffee to get your buzz before work BUT you already made that decision. Why waste that precious time of your life being frustrated at the innocent woman in front of you ordering her complex coffee beverage when you can be counting your blessings that you’re 1. driving a car 2. your lungs are filled with the breath of life and 3. you’re able to afford a cup of yummy but overpriced coffee?!

Now when is the last time that you’ve been in a frustrating/similar situation as the one mentioned and just decided to smile?!?! I’m telling you it is a GAME CHANGER! Please please please try it before you call me crazy. I have really been challenging myself to find value in those moments because they really add up. Whether you’re sitting in traffic wishing you were already home, listening to your baby cry because they don’t want to go to bed or simply in the Starbucks drive-through line that feels like eternity, why are we wasting time knowing we aren’t in control of the situation but working up things in our head like we are.

Give it to God. Thank him for the opportunity to reflect and chat with him. Thank him for all he has blessed you with (thank him for that Starbucks or that baby!!). But seriously, I have been in this EXACT scenario before and freed myself from feeling anxious just by calling up to the Lord.

I challenge you to be mindful this week. If you feel that flutter arise in your stomach (I know you know the feeling), just SMILE. Smile while sipping some lemonade haha.

Before I go, I wanted to let anyone who is interested know that my husband was able to create a subscribe feature on my blog! If you would like to receive an email notification every time that I post (which is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings) you are now able to enter your email through the pop-up! (If you’re on a desktop it will pop up on the homepage and if you’re on mobile it will be at the top of your screen!!!) You can also access it on the side menu!

As always, I hope you have a fabulous week!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Since I am going back to work next week I know I am going to have a lot of these moments with my commute. So I am going to take on this challenge, and remind myself to be grateful I have a family to go home to! Instead of being upset that I’m sitting in a car for over an hour when I should be home with my baby! Thanks for the tip this came at just the right time!

    1. Stephanie, I am praying for you as you’re making this transition! I’m so glad that you enjoyed this post and are going to challenge yourself! You will do great 🙂 xoxo
